How do we secure logistics in uncertain times? NWS brought together 60 key stakeholders

“Be prepared, not scared.” That was one of the clearest takeaways when Nordic Way Services hosted the seminar “Resilient Logistics and Host Nation Support in a Contested World” in Stockholm. Nearly 60 participants from the Swedish Armed Forces, the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), FOI, and the Swedish Transport Administration took part to discuss how Sweden can secure functioning logistics in an increasingly uncertain global environment.

Logistics – crucial in times of crisis and conflict

The seminar addressed a core issue for Sweden’s total defence: how we ensure that resources can be moved quickly and efficiently when society is under strain. In a security environment where supply chains are increasingly vulnerable, enhanced civil–military cooperation is essential.

International perspectives and key lessons

Held in English, the seminar offered participants insights and experiences from Sweden, Norway, and the United Kingdom. The keynote speaker was Yngve Odlo, former Commander of the Norwegian Joint Headquarters, who shared Norway’s hands-on experience in total defence logistics and civil–military cooperation—an area in which Norway is at the forefront.

The panel included:

  • William Freer, Research Fellow, Council on Geostrategy (UK)
  • Thomas Engevall, former Director General, Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (SE)
  • Yngve Odlo, Lieutenant General (NO)

A key step in strengthening Sweden’s resilience

The event provided concrete insights, new connections, and a clear conclusion: logistics is a core pillar of Sweden’s total defence, and resilience is built through planning, exercises, and collaboration.
